A man was taken to a hospital after he was attacked by robbers posing as stranded motorists in the Beech Creek community last weekend, according to a sheriff’s office report.
The victim told a Hawkins County deputy he was driving along Beech Creek Road last Sunday when he noticed a maroon Honda with the hood up near Simpson Loop. He said a woman was standing in front of the car and a man was in the passenger seat.
The victim said when he stopped to help, he was attacked by the man and woman plus three to four other men who emerged from the woods nearby.
The robbers reportedly took $30 from his wallet during the attack.
The victim then went a mile down the road to the Mt. Carmel Church to call for help. A sheriff’s deputy noticed knots on the victim’s head, marks on his abdomen, and gravel in his hair. He was taken to a hospital in Kingsport.
The deputy went to the scene of the alleged robbery but was only able to locate a maroon and blue hoodie lying in the road.
The sheriff’s office alerted agencies in neighboring counties to be on the lookout for a maroon Honda.
A HCSO detective is investigating the incident.
