A man was taken to jail after prompting a lockdown at Greeneville’s town hall and police department.

Greeneville police say an irate man carrying knives walked into the police department around 3:30 p.m. and made threats toward officers. The man, identified as Darius Brown, refused to put the knives down according to police.

GPD says the town hall and police department were placed on lockdown as they negotiated with Brown for about 30 minutes.

Police say they also located two backpacks belonging to Brown near the entrance to town hall. A police dog was brought in and detected explosives in the backpacks.

A bomb squad responded to the scene and no explosives were found.

Brown was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated assault.
