Police say a man is facing several charges after he entered a Johnson City apartment, waived a gun around, and refused to let the residents leave.
Melvin Chism, 44 of Memphis, is charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a weapon during a dangerous felony, and possession of methamphetamine for resale.
The incident happened Tuesday at an apartment located in the 600 block of N. Barton Street.
Johnson City police say Chism brandished a gun inside the apartment and wouldn’t let the victims leave.
Once officers arrived, Chism ran out the back door but was quickly arrested. Police say they found a gun and one ounce of methamphetamine in the area where he ran.
Chism was taken to the Washington County Detention Center with an $80,000 bond.
