CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said an inmate who escaped officers after being transported to a hospital Saturday night is back in custody.
According to a release from the CCSO, Timothy Reece, 25, was initially arrested on outstanding warrants Saturday for violation of probation and failure to appear. After he was booked into the jail, he reportedly began showing signs of a possible overdose, and jail medical staff determined he needed transport to a hospital, according to the release.
The CCSO said Reece escaped custody while at the hospital at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday and fled on foot. A search involving the CCSO, Elizabethton Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol took place throughout the night, the release said.
A spokesperson with the CCSO told News Channel 11 that Reece reportedly assaulted an officer in order to escape custody.
Reece was spotted in the 1700 block of West G Street just before 9 a.m. Sunday and was taken back into custody, the release said.
The investigation into his escape is ongoing and additional charges against him are pending, according to the CCSO.
