Crime alert issued on VT campus after attempted armed robbery

BLACKSBURG, VA (WSLS 10) – The Virginia Tech Police Department has issued a crime alert after an attempted armed robbery on campus.

According to police, the male victim told police he was attacked by a man who pretended to need his help. It happened around 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13 in the Dietrick parking lot on Virginia Tech’s campus.

The victim told police that he heard a call for help from a man with a deep, scruffy sounding voice from under the bushes. When the victim went to help, the suspect jumped up, showed a knife and demanded the victims wallet. The victim resisted the man and began to struggle away. The suspect then ran away in the direction of the War Memorial Gym on tech’s campus.

The suspect is described as a “college aged” white man approximately 5′ 10″ tall, slender build, with dirty blonde hair, over his ears in length. He was wearing a black zip up jacket with a hood and blue jeans.
