Convicted Johnson City felon sentenced to 15.6 years after posting selfies with semi-automatic

KNOXVILLE, TN (WJHL) – A Johnson City man has been sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for felony possession of a firearm.

Malik First Born Allah Farrad, also known as Marvin Maurice Buckles, 41, of Johnson City, TN, was sentenced  to serve 188 months in federal prison.

The Johnson City Police Department began an investigation in the fall of 2013.

Investigators suspected criminal activity and examined Farrad’s his use of social media, specifically Facebook.

Investigators found that in October 2013 Farrad uploaded a photograph of three handguns on top of the toilet seat in his bathroom.

Since Farrad already had “numerous felony convictions for drug, gun, and violent offenses” it was illegal for him to be in possession of the weapons.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the “ entirety of Farrad’s Facebook account” and found different  photographs  of  him taking selfies with a Springfield- model X D .45 caliber, semi-automatic pistol.   The pictures were taken from inside Farrad’s bathroom and were uploaded in October 2013.

After a two-day jury trial, Farrad was found guilty.

There is no parole in the federal system.

The investigation was the result of a partnership between the Johnson City Police Department and FBI.
