SHREVEPORT, LA (WSLS) – In their 23rd straight bowl game appearance, the longest streak recognized by college football, Virginia Tech put up more points than they have all season.
More importantly, the Hokies held off Tulsa 55-52 to end Coach Frank Beamer’s career on a high note. Coach Beamer and quarterback Michael Brewer, both who aren’t returning next year, had mixed emotions after the game.
“All I know is it was a good football game, it was exciting and first time I came to Shreveport I left here a happy guy, the last time I leave here, I’m a happy guy and I’m going to come back to Shreveport just for the hell of it. I like it down here!” Beamer said with a laugh after the game.
Brewer added, “college football is been a crazy ride for me, a lot of ups and downs, just the fact that he gave me the opportunity to come to Blacksburg and play means the world to me and I’m extremely grateful for that. Yeah, a little emotional about it, but wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
