Children claim clowns tried to lure them to woods

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – A neighborhood in South Carolina is reporting people dressed as clowns have been trying to lure children into the woods.

The children said the incident occurred near an apartment complex in Greenville County.

The report was filed on Aug. 21 at Fleetwood Manor Apartments. A woman said she was standing in front of her apartment on Aug. 21 around 8:30 p.m. She told a deputy her son told her he had seen “clowns in the woods” according to the report.

Another person reported seeing someone dressed as a clown near a garbage dumpster. The resident said that person waved at her and she waved back.

Children also said several clowns had been seen in the woods trying to persuade them to follow them with large amounts of money. They also claimed the “clowns” lived in a home near the property.

A Greenville County deputy says he investigated the trail in the woods and saw nothing suspicious at a home near a pond behind the complex where residents reported seeing clowns.

Drew Pinciaro of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Monday that officers investigated the woods behind Fleetwood Manor Apartments last week after receiving the reports but found “no signs of suspicious activity or characters dressed in clown attire.”

Patrols in the area are being increased.
