A judge has upgraded a charge against a woman accused of putting a baby in a freezer and closing the lid.

Brittany Smith is now facing a felony charge of aggravated child abuse and neglect. She was previously charged with child abuse and neglect.

The charge was upgraded in Washington County court on Tuesday. Smith’s bond was also set at $100,000.

Investigators accuse her of placing an infant in a freezer and closing the lid last week in Johnson City. The child was taken to a hospital, but police have not revealed the child’s condition.

The freezer was outside and not in use.
