Carson, Sanders winning Tri-Cities donation race ahead of Tuesday primary

(WJHL)   -With just days to go before the Tennessee and Virginia Presidential Primaries, campaign finance records reveal Ben Carson and Bernie Sanders leading the pack when it comes to donations here in the Tri-Cities.

Federal Election Commission data shows, while Trump and Clinton may lead in many of the polls, they’re not the ones inspiring the most local donors.

Among Republicans still in the race, Ben Carson leads in contributions closely followed by Ted Cruz.  There’s a big gap to third place. Marco Rubio edged out Donald Trump. John Kasich trails far behind in local donations.

Trump staked his campaign on funding it with his vast personal wealth, a possible reason for the lagging donations.

Among Democrats, Tri-Cities have donated the most through personal contributions to the Bernie Sanders campaign. He’s outpaced Hillary Clinton in local contributions about two-to-one.

The former Secretary of State is far ahead of the Vermont Senator when you look at statewide fundraising numbers.

Fundraising numbers show Jeb Bush did extremely well-raising money from personal contributions in Tri-Cities.

FEC records show he collected $42,275 before dropping out of the race last week, putting him in second place behind Ben Carson.
