JOHNSON CITY, TN- The ETSU football team headed inside the Mini Dome on Friday night for the start of fall camp. The Bucs will be entering their first year in the Southern Conference, which brought a new sense of excitement to the first day of camp.
“The expectations are higher, not only for us, but for our players,” said ETSU head coach Carl Torbush. “Obviously they understand what we need to do to be successful because they had to go through, just like all of us, some growth pains last year. We need to have this same excitement and enthusiasm to get better each and every day of camp so when we get ready to play that first game, we’ll be ready to go.”
“I think the confidence that we have, got a whole year under our belt, and I think that promotes to the field,” said ETSU linebacker Austin Gatewood. “You play faster, you play more confident, so I think that helps. It’s a good conference, it’s a strong conference, and it just gets us excited and makes us want to work to get to the top.”
“None of us had really played college football,” said ETSU quarterback Austin Herink. “So we’ve got a year under our belt, 11 games, and we didn’t play SoCon competition but we played some pretty good teams. I think we all feel a lot more confident at this point now than last year and so we’re ready to go.”
The Bucs will hit the field on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. for their second day of fall camp.
