Bruton Smith cancer free following treatment of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

BRISTOL, TN (WJHL) – The man who founded the company that owns Bristol Motor Speedway got an early Christmas present.

Speedway Motorsports, Inc.’s O. Bruton Smith is reportedly cancer free.

Smith’s daughter-in-law spread the good news Tuesday via Twitter.

BMS officials confirmed Twitter post saying, “the news from Bruton’s most recent screening was confirmed by SMI. Great news!”

Back in August, with the speedway as his backdrop, Smith announced that doctors treated him for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma earlier in the summer.

The truck series race at Bristol was Smith’s first race since his diagnosis.

Smith said he used racing at BMS as motivation for his recovery.Copyright 2015 WJHL. All rights reserved.
