Benjamin Shook faces Virginia charges in 2015 kidnapping


SMYTH COUNTY, VA (WJHL)- News Channel 11 learned Thursday Benjamin Shook, the man accused of kidnapping a 14-year-old Hawkins County girl, is facing four new charges out of Virginia.

On Tuesday, Shook pleaded guilty in Greeneville, Tenn. federal court to five charges against him, including kidnapping, transporting a minor for illegal sexual activity, and failing to register as a sex offender. He could now face life in prison.

On Thursday we learned Shook also faces four charges out of Smyth County, Va. including abduction and three counts of carnal knowledge.

42-year-old Shook, a convicted sex offender, sparked a multi-state Amber Alert in 2015.

Investigators said Shook used the internet to lure the teenager from her home and disappeared for two weeks. The two were found in Smyth County, Va.

For his federal charges, Shook faces a minimum of 25 years and a maximum of life in prison.
