BLOUNTVILLE, TN (WJHL) – A local animal shelter is celebrating an entire year without euthanizing an animal.
The Sullivan County, Bluff City, Kingsport Animal Center last euthanized for space on May 21, 2015.
Since then, volunteers have worked hard to find homes for every single animal that comes through the shelter.
“It’s hard when we know that they’re not here anymore because we couldn’t help them,” shelter supervisor Michelle Baker said, “So now when we see an empty kennel it’s a good thing because we know that dog is in a good, loving home being cared for.”
The shelter hopes to go another full year without euthanizing and will kick off a drive Saturday to empty their shelter in just eight days.
From 12:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, an organization called Shane’s War will be at the SBK shelter in Blountville for an adoption event. Shane’s War helps shelters in rural areas raise awareness for animal adoption.
That evening, the shelter will hold the Mardi Growl party at the Holston River Brewing company in Bristol to raise funds for local animal shelters.Copyright 2016 WJHL, All Rights Reserved.
