WISE COUNTY, VA (WJHL) — Two counties in Southwest Virginia say Alpha Natural Resources owe them millions of dollars in unpaid taxes for 2015.
Finance administrator for Wise County, Virginia David Cox said they learned the company owes the county 1.46 million dollars .
“That’s a substantial amount in our budget,” said Cox. “Our annual budget is 51 million, so that is a chunk of money.”
He says the money is made up of personal property and machinery.
“The court will review the request by the treasurer and rule if those assets can be sold or not,” he said.
Dickenson County Treasurer Angela Rakes said Alpha owes them over a million dollars as well.
