TRI-CITIES, TN (WJHL) – An advisory committee tasked with gathering the pros and cons of the proposed merger of the region’s two largest hospital systems will present their findings in two weeks.

Based on public hearings required by the State of Tennessee, the advisory committee has gathered input from both healthcare workers and the community.

Mountain State Health Alliance and Wellmont Health System filed a Certificate of Public Advantage or COPA.

The approval of that crucial document is required in order for the merger to move forward.

The local advisory committee’s work will help the state determine whether or not the advantages outweigh the disadvantages for the future of healthcare in our region.

The advisory committee’s findings will be presented during the final public listening session on May 31.

That index will then make its way to the Tennessee Commissioner of Public Health.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All rights reserved.
