UPDATE: Juvenile accused of pepper spraying kitten put on probation, police say

BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) - A 17-year-old girl accused of pepper spraying a kitten has been placed on probation and will not face criminal charges so long as she complies with probation requirements, police say.

Bristol, Virginia Police Detective David Blanken says a juvenile intake worker decided to place the accused teenager on probation instead of pursuing charges against her. Juvenile intake workers are similar to magistrates.

Blanken says the teenager must comply with the probation requirements, which include participation in certain programs, otherwise she may face criminal charges.

Bristol, Va. Police originally charged her with misdemeanor animal cruelty in connection to a video that showed the teenager pepper spraying a kitten.

The kitten was found and treated following the incident. We are told it is in good condition and has been adopted.

Detective Blanken says charges are pending against a male juvenile in connection to the incident. He also tells News Channel 11 the male is also under investigation for another unrelated incident
