Outbuilding manufacturer locating to Erwin's vacant rail yard

ERWIN, TN (WJHL)  -  A manufacturer of residential outbuildings is locating its first Tennessee plant in Erwin and it will fill in a spot left vacant by CSX.

Old Hickory Buildings and Statesville Barn Company are currently making site preparations in the Riverview Industrial Park in a building that was vacant for two years as a result of the closure of the CSC rail yard, according to the Joint Economic Board of Unicoi County.

Officials say the company considered locations in Western North Carolina and Southwest Virginia.

The outbuildings manufacturer plans to invest up to $3 million in property, plant, and equipment.

It's hoped that the new facility will be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2018.

“I am excited to bring our business into a community like Erwin. We look forward to providing jobs for hometown people and serving the community and surrounding areas," said Josh Linder, General Manager of the Erwin plant.

According to the economic development board, the buildings constructed at the Riverview Site will be sold to the general public at retail dealerships in East Tennessee, Western North Carolina, Southwest Virginia and Upstate South Carolina.

Old Hickory Buildings and Statesville Barn Company touts it is the nation's leading manufacturer of outbuildings. Headquartered in North Carolina, it has more than 40 manufacturing locations around the country.
