BREAKING: Man in custody after threatening to jump from Interstate 26 bridge

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -- The man at the center of an hours long situation along Interstate 26 in Johnson City, Tennessee is now in police custody.

The man reportedly moved away from the ledge of the bridge and was apprehended by police around 10:15 p.m. tonight. 

It's unclear how much longer traffic will be impacted now that the situation has resolved.

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -- Johnson City Police are asking people to avoid the area of Interstate 26 exit 19 and State of Franklin Road. Police say people who are in the area should leave.

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -- New details in a developing situation on I-26 near Exit 19 and State of Franklin Road.

Tennessee Highway Patrol reports the subject threatening to jump from the bridge is the possible suspect from this afternoon's attempted armed robbery of Dollar Tree in Sullivan County.

Traffic is still being routed off 1-26 near Exit 19 because of the incident and THP officers are advising people to stay clear of the area if at all possible.
