Man threatened to kill his wife at Boones Creek Elementary, police say

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) - A man is facing charges after police say he threatened to kill his estranged wife at Boones Creek Elementary School.

Washington County deputies arrested Mark Spears.

The sheriff's office says around 3 p.m. Wednesday, Spears was inside the school when he threatened to kill his wife outside after learning she had filed for an order of protection against him.

After hearing the threats, the school went into lockdown.

Deputies say the wife saw Spears emerge from the school, so she fled in her vehicle. He then got into his vehicle and chased her along the road in front of the school.

When the wife drove back to the school, where officers had already arrived, Spears fled to his home at 502 Possum Hollow Road where he was later arrested. Investigators say they found methamphetamine and two loaded guns inside his vehicle.

The sheriff's office has charged Spears with aggravated domestic assault, possession of a weapon on school property, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of meth.

A school official previously told News Channel 11 that students were finally released around 4 p.m.
