VDH: New COVID-19 death in Russell County, 73 new cases in Southwest Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) – The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 73 new cases of COVID-19 and one new death related to the virus in Southwest Virginia on Tuesday.

The new death was reported in Russell County.

Statewide, VDH reported 497,840 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 638,910.

VDH reports there have been 8,811 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 1,348 cases / 88 hospitalizations / 32 deaths (7 new cases)
Buchanan County – 1,375 cases / 98 hospitalizations / 36 deaths (2 new cases)
Dickenson County – 911 cases / 40 hospitalizations / 15 deaths
Lee County – 2,388 cases / 107 hospitalizations / 46 deaths (2 new cases)
Norton – 263 cases / 18 hospitalizations / 7 deaths (2 new cases)
Russell County – 2,199 cases / 129 hospitalizations / 36 deaths (1 new case/ 1 new hospitalization/ 1 new death)
Scott County – 1,765 cases / 118 hospitalizations / 51 deaths (11 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Smyth County – 2,707 cases / 187 hospitalizations / 90 deaths (4 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Tazewell County – 3,480 cases / 156 hospitalizations / 65 deaths (11 new cases)
Washington County, Va. – 4,637 cases / 386 hospitalizations / 102 deaths (27 new cases/ 2 new hospitalizations)
Wise County – 3,027 cases / 157 hospitalizations / 93 deaths (6 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
