VDH: New COVID-19 death in Russell County, 29 new cases in Southwest Virginia

The 14-day new daily case rate is at its lowest point since mid-October.

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) – 29 new cases of COVID-19 and one new death were reported in Southwest Virginia Friday, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

The new death was reported in Russell County.

The 14-day new daily case rate is at its lowest point since mid-October. The 7-day case rate is its lowest since late September and is only 12.9 per 100,000 population. That is below the CDC red zone of 14.3. 

The 14-day daily death trend is its lowest since mid-November (1.14).

The 14-day daily hospitalization average is its lowest since late November.

Statewide, VDH reported 442,757 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 559,930.

VDH reports there have been 6,107 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

Bristol, Va. – 1,210 cases / 75 hospitalizations / 27 deaths (-1 case)
Buchanan County – 1,282 cases / 89 hospitalizations / 32 deaths
Dickenson County – 864 cases / 38 hospitalizations / 14 deaths (6 new cases)
Lee County – 2,254 cases / 89 hospitalizations / 38 deaths (3 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Norton – 235 cases / 16 hospitalizations / 4 deaths
Russell County – 2,001 cases / 111 hospitalizations / 27 deaths (-3 cases/ 1 new death)
Scott County – 1,563 cases / 111 hospitalizations / 47 deaths (2 new cases)
Smyth County – 2,495 cases / 164 hospitalizations / 83 deaths (8 new cases)
Tazewell County – 3,149 cases/ 128 hospitalizations / 39 deaths (-1 case/ 1 new hospitalization)
Washington County, Va. – 4,237 cases / 336 hospitalizations / 88 deaths (2 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Wise County – 2,797 cases / 145 hospitalizations / 85 deaths (8 new cases)

The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
