VDH: 9 new COVID-19 deaths in Southwest Virginia, 198 new cases

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) – Southwest Virginia counties reported 198 new COVID-19 cases and nine new deaths according to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

Seven of those deaths were reported in Smyth County.

Russell and Washington Counties each reported one new death

Statewide, VDH reported 256,999 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 299,388.

VDH reports there have been 4,164 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

VDH reported Friday morning that there are 16,202 confirmed hospitalizations due to COVID-19 and 482 probable virus-related hospitalizations.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 724 cases / 37 hospitalizations/ 7 deaths (8 new cases)
Buchanan County – 616 cases / 43 hospitalizations/ 24 deaths (8 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Dickenson County – 530 cases / 22 hospitalizations/ 4 deaths (6 new cases)
Lee County – 1,213 cases / 59 hospitalizations/ 26 deaths (16 new cases)
Norton – 119 cases / 6 hospitalizations (7 new cases)
Russell County – 1,265 cases / 78 hospitalizations / 14 deaths (23 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization/ 1 new death)
Scott County – 1,063 cases / 69 hospitalizations / 25 deaths (19 new cases)
Smyth County – 1,497 cases / 92 hospitalizations / 46 deaths (18 new cases/ 4 new hospitalizations/ 7 new deaths)
Tazewell County – 1,772 cases/ 62 hospitalizations/ 9 deaths (35 new cases)
Washington County, Va. – 2,496 cases / 163 hospitalizations / 38 deaths (33 new cases/ 6 new hospitalizations/ 1 new death)
Wise County – 1,647 cases / 86 hospitalizations / 53 deaths (25 new cases/ 4 new hospitalizations)

The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
