VDH: 7 new COVID-19 deaths in Southwest Virginia, 39 new cases

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) – 39 new cases of COVID-19 and seven new deaths were reported in Southwest Virginia Wednesday, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

Washington and Tazewell Counties both reported three new deaths on Wednesday. Buchanan County reported one new death.

Statewide, VDH reported 456,462 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 580,108.

VDH reports there have been 7,993 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 1,224 cases / 75 hospitalizations / 29 deaths (2 new cases)
Buchanan County – 1,296 cases / 91 hospitalizations / 35 deaths (1 new case/ 1 new death)
Dickenson County – 875 cases / 38 hospitalizations / 14 deaths
Lee County – 2,298 cases / 96 hospitalizations / 42 deaths (6 new cases)
Norton – 240 cases / 17 hospitalizations / 6 deaths (1 new case)
Russell County – 2,034 cases / 121 hospitalizations / 34 deaths (3 new cases)
Scott County – 1,591 cases / 111 hospitalizations / 49 deaths (5 new cases)
Smyth County – 2,521 cases / 170 hospitalizations / 87 deaths (3 new cases)
Tazewell County – 3,202 cases/ 135 hospitalizations / 58 deaths (5 new cases / 1 new hospitalization/ 3 new deaths)
Washington County, Va. – 4,287 cases / 351 hospitalizations / 98 deaths (9 new cases/ 2 new hospitalizations/ 3 new deaths)
Wise County – 2,882 cases / 149 hospitalizations / 92 deaths (4 new cases)

The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
