VDH: 6 new COVID-19 deaths in Southwest Virginia, 87 new cases

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) — Southwest Virginia counties reported 87 new COVID-19 cases and six new deaths Tuesday, according to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

Scott County reported three new deaths, while Wise, Buchanan and Smyth Counties each reported one.

Statewide, VDH reported 389,259 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 483,326.

VDH reports there have been 5,442 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 1,159 cases / 71 hospitalizations / 24 deaths (-1 case/ -1 hospitalization)
Buchanan County – 1,040 cases / 74 hospitalizations / 28 deaths (9 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization/ 1 new death)
Dickenson County – 811 cases / 32 hospitalizations / 13 deaths (3 new cases)
Lee County – 2,075 cases / 85 hospitalizations / 33 deaths (19 new cases)
Norton – 227 cases / 14 hospitalizations / 2 deaths (2 new cases)
Russell County – 1,895 cases / 101 hospitalizations / 21 deaths (6 new cases)
Scott County – 1,466 cases / 102 hospitalizations / 44 deaths (6 new cases/ 4 new hospitalizations/ 3 new deaths)
Smyth County – 2,330 cases / 155 hospitalizations / 70 deaths (3 new cases/ 1 new death)
Tazewell County – 2,939 cases/ 115 hospitalizations / 29 deaths (14 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Washington County, Va. – 3,947 cases / 288 hospitalizations / 74 deaths (25 new cases/ 4 new hospitalizations)
Wise County – 2,602 cases / 134 hospitalizations / 83 deaths (-4 cases/ 1 new hospitalization/ 1 new death)

The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
