VDH: 6 new COVID-19 deaths in Southwest Virginia, 136 new cases

The 14-day average of new daily COVID hospitalizations in Southwest Virginia reached its lowest level in a month Thursday.

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) — Southwest Virginia counties reported 136 new COVID-19 cases and six new deaths Thursday, according to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

Three new deaths were reported in Lee County. Washington County reported two new deaths, while Smyth County reported one.

Dickenson County reported two fewer cases in its county total on Thursday than it had on Wednesday.

Statewide, VDH reported 396,440 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 493,674.

VDH reports there have been 5,566 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 1,175 cases / 71 hospitalizations / 24 deaths (10 new cases)
Buchanan County – 1,077 cases / 77 hospitalizations / 31 deaths (9 new cases)
Dickenson County – 815 cases / 34 hospitalizations / 14 deaths (-2 cases)
Lee County – 2,114 cases / 86 hospitalizations / 36 deaths (31 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization/ 3 new deaths)
Norton – 230 cases / 15 hospitalizations / 2 deaths (2 new cases)
Russell County – 1,903 cases / 102 hospitalizations / 21 deaths (4 new cases)
Scott County – 1,484 cases / 102 hospitalizations / 44 deaths (9 new cases)
Smyth County – 2,380 cases / 157 hospitalizations / 72 deaths (22 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization/ 1 new death)
Tazewell County – 2,952 cases/ 116 hospitalizations / 32 deaths (15 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Washington County, Va. – 4,002 cases / 296 hospitalizations / 77 deaths (24 new cases/ 2 new hospitalizations/ 2 new deaths)
Wise County – 2,621 cases / 135 hospitalizations / 84 deaths (10 new cases)

The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
