VDH: 5 new COVID-19 deaths reported in Southwest Virginia, 196 new cases

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) – Southwest Virginia counties reported 196 new COVID-19 cases and five new deaths according to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

Two new deaths were reported in Scott County, two in Wise County and one in Washington County.

Tazewell County reported 82 new cases alone on Tuesday.

Bristol’s case total dropped by two and one hospitalization was also removed by VDH.

Statewide, VDH reported 249,040 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 288,309.

VDH reports there have been 4,058 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

VDH reported Tuesday morning that there are 15,754 confirmed hospitalizations due to COVID-19 and 433 probable virus-related hospitalizations.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 679 cases / 35 hospitalizations/ 7 deaths (-2 new cases/ -1 new hospitalization)
Buchanan County – 598 cases / 41 hospitalizations/ 24 deaths (3 new cases)
Dickenson County – 503 cases / 20 hospitalizations/ 3 deaths (16 new cases)
Lee County – 1,173 cases / 54 hospitalizations/ 15 deaths (5 new cases)
Norton – 108 cases / 6 hospitalizations
Russell County – 1,163 cases / 74 hospitalizations / 11 deaths (46 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Scott County – 1,007 cases / 69 hospitalizations / 24 deaths (4 new cases/ 5 new hospitalizations/ 2 new deaths)
Smyth County – 1,404 cases / 86 hospitalizations / 38 deaths (16 new cases)
Tazewell County – 1,631 cases/ 60 hospitalizations/ 8 deaths (82 new cases)
Washington County, Va. – 2,359 cases / 150 hospitalizations / 37 deaths (4 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization/ 1 new death)
Wise County – 1,560 cases / 82 hospitalizations / 53 deaths (20 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization/ 2 new deaths)

The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
