VDH: 3 new COVID-19 deaths reported in Wise County, 180 new local cases

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) – Southwest Virginia counties reported 180 new COVID-19 cases and three new deaths Monday according to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). 

All three new deaths were reported in Wise County.

Tazewell County reported 32 new cases on Monday, while Scott County reported 31.

The community spread rate across the region (new daily cases per 100,000 population) is 43.9 based on a seven-day average. Virginia’s statewide rate is 26.5.

Statewide, VDH reported 198,142 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth on Monday.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 221,038.

VDH reports there have been 3,629 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

VDH reported Monday morning that there are 13,834 confirmed hospitalizations due to COVID-19 and 262 probable virus-related hospitalizations.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 489 cases / 26 hospitalizations/ 7 deaths (5 new cases)
Buchanan County – 388 cases / 19 hospitalizations/ 5 deaths (13 new cases)
Dickenson County – 246 cases / 12 hospitalizations/ 1 death (6 new cases)
Lee County – 828 cases / 43 hospitalizations/ 12 deaths (26 new cases)
Norton – 71 cases / 5 hospitalizations (1 new case)
Russell County – 745 cases / 55 hospitalizations / 9 deaths (9 new cases / 1 new hospitalization)
Scott County – 723 cases / 48 hospitalizations / 12 deaths (31 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Smyth County – 951 cases / 66 hospitalizations / 36 deaths (22 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Tazewell County – 932 cases/ 42 hospitalizations/ 7 deaths (32 new cases)
Washington County, Va. – 1,610 cases / 117 hospitalizations / 29 deaths (18 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Wise County – 1,138 cases / 59 hospitalizations / 36 deaths (17 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization/ 3 new deaths)

The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
