VDH: 28 new COVID-19 cases reported in Southwest Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 28 new cases of COVID-19 in Southwest Virginia on Friday.

Several localities reported a decrease in the total number of COVID-19 cases.

Bristol, Virginia, Buchanan, Dickenson and Wise counties each reported fewer cases.

Friday’s net gain of COVID-19 cases in Southwest Virginia sits at 16 cases.

Statewide, VDH reported 534,376 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 688,300.

VDH reports there have been 9,707 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 1,596 cases / 121 hospitalizations / 36 deaths (2 new cases / -1 death)
Buchanan County – 1,568 cases / 118 hospitalizations / 45 deaths (-1 case)
Dickenson County – 1,010 cases / 46 hospitalizations / 18 deaths (-1 case)
Lee County – 2,450 cases / 114 hospitalizations / 49 deaths (12 new cases)
Norton – 294 cases / 19 hospitalizations / 7 deaths
Russell County – 2,326 cases / 134 hospitalizations / 40 deaths (3 new cases)
Scott County – 1,897 cases / 131 hospitalizations / 60 deaths (1 new case)
Smyth County – 3,003 cases / 207 hospitalizations / 96 deaths (5 new cases)
Tazewell County – 3,779 cases / 182 hospitalizations / 75 deaths (1 new case)
Washington County, Va. – 5,095 cases / 442 hospitalizations / 112 deaths (6 new cases)
Wise County – 3,311 cases / 183 hospitalizations / 105 deaths (-10 cases)
