VDH: 28 new COVID-19 cases, 1 new death reported in Southwest Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) – The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 28 new cases of COVID-19 and one new death in Southwest Virginia Sunday.

The single death in Washington County, Virginia, ended a four-day streak of no new deaths due to the novel coronavirus.

Statewide, VDH reported 488,041 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 625,148.

VDH reports there have been 8,674 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 1,299 cases / 86 hospitalizations / 31 deaths (6 new cases / 1 new hospitalization)
Buchanan County – 1,355 cases / 96 hospitalizations / 36 deaths (2 new cases)
Dickenson County – 911 cases / 40 hospitalizations / 15 deaths (2 new cases)
Lee County – 2,369 cases / 105 hospitalizations / 45 deaths
Norton – 256 cases / 17 hospitalizations / 6 deaths (1 new case)
Russell County – 2,170 cases / 127 hospitalizations / 35 deaths (4 new cases)
Scott County – 1,714 cases / 116 hospitalizations / 51 deaths (1 new case)
Smyth County – 2,646 cases / 183 hospitalizations / 89 deaths (2 new cases)
Tazewell County – 3,409 cases / 151 hospitalizations / 64 deaths (4 new cases)
Washington County, Va. – 4,509 cases / 381 hospitalizations / 101 deaths (5 new cases / 7 new hospitalizations / 1 new death)
Wise County – 2,996 cases / 155 hospitalizations / 92 deaths (1 new case)
