VDH: 2 new COVID-19 deaths in Wise County, 149 new cases in SWVA

After reaching a record high a week ago, the 14-day trend of new hospitalizations has declined each day.

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) — Southwest Virginia counties reported 149 new COVID-19 cases and two new deaths Friday, according to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

Both deaths were reported in Wise County.

Norton reported fewer cases, one less hospitalization and one less death than it previously had.

Statewide, VDH reported 374,908 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 463,751.

VDH reports there have been 5,269 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 1,142 cases / 67 hospitalizations/ 22 deaths (4 new cases)
Buchanan County – 1,012 cases / 73 hospitalizations/ 26 deaths (1 new case)
Dickenson County – 797 cases / 31 hospitalizations/ 13 deaths (2 new cases)
Lee County – 2,023 cases / 85 hospitalizations/ 33 deaths (45 new cases)
Norton – 223 cases / 14 hospitalizations/ 2 deaths (-2 cases/ -1 hospitalization/ -1 death)
Russell County – 1,872 cases / 100 hospitalizations / 21 deaths (8 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Scott County – 1,449 cases / 97 hospitalizations / 40 deaths (8 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Smyth County – 2,305 cases / 155 hospitalizations / 66 deaths (28 new cases)
Tazewell County – 2,910 cases/ 114 hospitalizations/ 28 deaths (2 new cases)
Washington County, Va. – 3,860 cases / 275 hospitalizations / 68 deaths (40 new cases/ 4 new hospitalizations)
Wise County – 2,566 cases / 132 hospitalizations / 79 deaths (11 new cases/ 2 new hosptilatizations/ 2 new deaths)

The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
