VDH: 2 new COVID-19 deaths in SWVA, 221 new cases

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) – Southwest Virginia counties reported 221 new COVID-19 cases and two new deaths Wednesday according to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). 

The new deaths were reported in Wise and Scott Counties.

Russell County reported 35 new cases of COVID-19. Tazewell County reported 34 new cases.

Statewide, VDH reported 214,386 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 242,480.

VDH reports there have been 3,768 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

VDH reported Wednesday morning that there are 14,550 confirmed hospitalizations due to COVID-19 and 330 probable virus-related hospitalizations.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 555 cases / 28 hospitalizations/ 7 deaths (15 new cases)
Buchanan County – 449 cases / 23 hospitalizations/ 6 deaths (18 new cases)
Dickenson County – 294 cases / 14 hospitalizations/ 1 death (20 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Lee County – 971 cases / 47 hospitalizations/ 14 deaths (19 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Norton – 86 cases / 5 hospitalizations (1 new case)
Russell County – 852 cases / 62 hospitalizations / 9 deaths (35 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Scott County – 797 cases / 55 hospitalizations / 15 deaths (13 new cases/ 1 new death)
Smyth County – 1,067 cases / 72 hospitalizations / 35 deaths (12 new cases)
Tazewell County – 1,122 cases/ 53 hospitalizations/ 7 deaths (34 new cases/ 2 new hospitalizations)
Washington County, Va. – 1,806 cases / 126 hospitalizations / 31 deaths (29 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Wise County – 1,266 cases / 71 hospitalizations / 50 deaths (25 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization/ 1 new death)

The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
