VDH: 2 new COVID-19 deaths in Southwest Virginia, 61 new cases

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) – 61 new cases of COVID-19 and two new deaths were reported in Southwest Virginia Wednesday, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

The new deaths were reported in Tazewell and Wise Counties.

Statewide, VDH reported 439,674 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 555,592.

VDH reports there have been 6,080 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 1,210 cases / 75 hospitalizations / 27 deaths (1 new case/ 1 new hospitalization)
Buchanan County – 1,267 cases / 89 hospitalizations / 32 deaths (11 new cases)
Dickenson County – 856 cases / 38 hospitalizations / 14 deaths (5 new cases/ 2 new hospitalizations)
Lee County – 2,250 cases / 88 hospitalizations / 38 deaths (8 new cases)
Norton – 235 cases / 16 hospitalizations / 4 deaths (-1 case)
Russell County – 1,988 cases / 107 hospitalizations / 26 deaths (7 new cases)
Scott County – 1,554 cases / 111 hospitalizations / 46 deaths (4 new cases/ 2 new hospitalizations)
Smyth County – 2,488 cases / 164 hospitalizations / 83 deaths (3 new cases)
Tazewell County – 3,149 cases/ 129 hospitalizations / 39 deaths (7 new cases/ 1 new death)
Washington County, Va. – 4,238 cases / 337 hospitalizations / 88 deaths (2 new cases/ 2 new hospitalizations)
Wise County – 2,786 cases / 144 hospitalizations / 85 deaths (13 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization/ 1 new death)

The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
