VDH: 2 new COVID-19 deaths in Southwest Virginia, 48 new cases

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) – The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 48 new cases of COVID-19 and two new deaths related to the virus on Thursday.

The new deaths were reported in Smyth and Wise Counties.

Tazewell County also reported one less death Thursday than it had Wednesday.

Statewide, VDH reported 520,759 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 668,726.

VDH reports there have been 9,249 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 1,518 cases / 101 hospitalizations / 34 deaths (9 new cases)
Buchanan County – 1,431 cases / 103 hospitalizations / 40 deaths (6 new cases)
Dickenson County – 938 cases / 40 hospitalizations / 15 deaths (3 new cases)
Lee County – 2,421 cases / 110 hospitalizations / 47 deaths (-1 case)
Norton – 284 cases / 19 hospitalizations / 7 deaths (1 new case)
Russell County – 2,262 cases / 130 hospitalizations / 38 deaths
Scott County – 1,835 cases / 127 hospitalizations / 54 deaths (1 new hospitalization)
Smyth County – 2,959 cases / 203 hospitalizations / 93 deaths (10 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization/ 1 new death)
Tazewell County – 3,626 cases / 163 hospitalizations / 70 deaths (1 new case/ -1 death)
Washington County, Va. – 4,920 cases / 420 hospitalizations / 109 deaths (14 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Wise County – 3,191 cases / 161 hospitalizations / 97 deaths (4 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization/ 1 new death)
