VDH: 2 new COVID-19 deaths in Southwest Virginia, 210 new cases

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) – Southwest Virginia counties reported 210 new COVID-19 cases and two new death according to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

The new deaths were recorded in Wise and Smyth Counties.

Washington County reported 42 new cases Friday.

Statewide, VDH reported 238,281 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 274,438.

VDH reports there have been 3,973 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

VDH reported Thursday morning that there are 15,460 confirmed hospitalizations due to COVID-19 and 404 probable virus-related hospitalizations.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 644 cases / 33 hospitalizations/ 7 deaths (10 new cases)
Buchanan County – 570 cases / 40 hospitalizations/ 24 deaths (12 new cases)
Dickenson County – 463 cases / 17 hospitalizations/ 3 deaths (17 new cases)
Lee County – 1,103 cases / 53 hospitalizations/ 15 deaths (9 new cases)
Norton – 105 cases / 6 hospitalizations
Russell County – 1,062 cases / 69 hospitalizations / 10 deaths (19 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Scott County – 960 cases / 61 hospitalizations / 20 deaths (12 new cases)
Smyth County – 1,294 cases / 84 hospitalizations / 37 deaths (30 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization/ 1 new death)
Tazewell County – 1,404 cases/ 57 hospitalizations/ 8 deaths (40 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Washington County, Va. – 2,221 cases / 143 hospitalizations / 34 deaths (42 new cases)
Wise County – 1,462 cases / 79 hospitalizations / 51 deaths (19 new cases/ 3 new hospitalizations/ 1 new death)

The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
