VDH: 160 new COVID-19 cases, 3 new deaths in Southwest Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) — Southwest Virginia counties reported 160 new COVID-19 cases and three new deaths, according to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

Statewide, VDH reported 278,048 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 327,993.

VDH reports there have been 4,268 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

Of the five new confirmed deaths reported in Virginia on Friday, three of those were reported in the Southwest Virginia region. Lee County had one new death, and Wise County had two new deaths.

There were 160 new COVID-19 cases reported in Southwest Virginia on Friday.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 845 cases / 39 hospitalizations/ 7 deaths (6 new cases)
Buchanan County – 700 cases / 51 hospitalizations/ 24 deaths (9 new cases)
Dickenson County – 582 cases / 23 hospitalizations/ 4 deaths (7 new cases)
Lee County – 1,385 cases / 60 hospitalizations/ 29 deaths (23 new cases; 1 new death)
Norton – 147 cases / 8 hospitalizations/ 1 death (3 new cases)
Russell County – 1,409 cases / 85 hospitalizations / 16 deaths (13 new cases)
Scott County – 1,153 cases / 76 hospitalizations / 29 deaths (14 new cases)
Smyth County – 1,641 cases / 103 hospitalizations / 51 deaths (3 new cases)
Tazewell County – 2,107cases/ 72 hospitalizations/ 16 deaths (37 new cases/ 2 new hospitalizations)
Washington County, Va. – 2,763 cases / 176 hospitalizations / 40 deaths (16 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Wise County – 1,847 cases / 97 hospitalizations / 55 deaths (29 new cases, 1 new hospitalization, 2 new deaths)

The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
