VDH: 16 new COVID-19 deaths in SWVA, 148 new cases

RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) – Southwest Virginia counties reported 148 new COVID-19 cases and 16 new deaths Wednesday according to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).  

Smyth County reported 10 new deaths. Wise County reported six new deaths Wednesday.

Statewide, VDH reported 188,853 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth on Wednesday.

According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 208,833.

VDH reports there have been 3,569 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

VDH reported Wednesday morning that there are 13,475 confirmed hospitalizations due to COVID-19 and 232 probable virus-related hospitalizations.

Note: VDH does not report whether cases are active or recovered. County and community case totals can include active, recovered, confirmed and probable cases.

Bristol, Va. – 449 cases / 25 hospitalizations/ 7 deaths (10 new cases)
Buchanan County – 351 cases / 19 hospitalizations/ 5 deaths (20 new cases)
Dickenson County – 223 cases / 12 hospitalizations/ 1 death (13 new cases)
Lee County – 770 cases / 43 hospitalizations/ 11 deaths (16 new cases)
Norton – 63 cases / 5 hospitalizations
Russell County – 716 cases / 51 hospitalizations / 8 deaths (24 new cases)
Scott County – 644 cases / 40 hospitalizations / 12 deaths (5 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Smyth County – 870 cases / 63 hospitalizations / 37 deaths (21 new cases/ 3 new hospitalizations/ 10 new deaths)
Washington County, Va. – 1,499 cases / 111 hospitalizations / 29 deaths (21 new cases)
Wise County – 1,066 cases / 54 hospitalizations / 23 deaths (18 new cases/ 6 new deaths)

The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
