Tennessee reports record-high 177 new COVID-19 deaths on Thursday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Tennessee Department of Health reported 644 new COVID-19 cases, six new deaths, and 524 new inactive or recovered cases in Northeast Tennessee on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the state reported a record 177 new deaths, breaking the previous record of 100 new deaths reported on Dec. 8.

Four new deaths were reported in Sullivan County while Carter and Unicoi counties saw one additional death each.

Greene County posted a record 145 new COVID-19 cases. Across the area, 172 new cases were reported in Washington County, 131 in Sullivan, 81 in Hawkins, 68 in Carter, 24 in Johnson, and 23 in Unicoi.

There are currently 4,972 active cases in Northeast Tennessee, up from 4,858 yesterday.

Statewide, the health department reported 8,945 new coronavirus cases.

Hospitalizations remain at a record-high with 2,897 current COVID-19 hospitalizations in Tennessee. Active cases continue to rise with an all-time high of 68,661 reported on Thursday.
