Michael Epps found his passion for sports reporting and is thrilled to do it in the Tri-Cities area. He began his journalism career in high school through the local public television station TV-10, in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He would broadcast local football and basketball games, which he developed a passion for. He graduated from Michigan State University (Go Green) and saw his career take off, covering football, basketball, and more at a Big Ten level! He covered the men’s basketball team’s run to the Final Four, and he can’t wait to cover more of sports’ biggest stages.
Studying Journalism at Michigan State gave Michael the chance to learn from faculty with extensive industry experience in multiple areas and he gained many skills. He graduated with minors in Sports Journalism and Broadcast Journalism. He developed a love for storytelling by attending the NPPA News Video Workshop during his junior year and realized the root of journalism lies in getting out in the community and telling people’s stories.
Michael worked at fellow Nexstar station WLNS-TV in Lansing while he was in school, where he covered high school football and basketball every Friday night for three years. It’s safe to say he loves high school sports! This is his first time living in the South, so he can’t wait to experience all this region has to offer. He can’t eat Gluten, but he will certainly look to get a taste of what it’s like to eat some true southern food. He’s open to suggestions!
