Educator of the Week: Teresa Brown

Educator of the Week

Teresa Brown is a 2nd career teacher,  She began her professional life at Ratheon. When that closed she headed for the classroom and she’s been there for 20 years, 10 years in elementary and the last 10 years at Vance Middle School

Brown teaches 8th grade Social Studies.  On this day it’s lesson on the 13 colonies.  She says the greatest thing she can pass along is that learning can be fun.   Brown teaches nearly 100 students per day in her classes and each gets the same energy and dedication.

Brown says the key to her success in the classroom is her storytelling but it’s her own story that really brings history to life for her students.

“Being African-American I can say, “I remember when I walked back two white schools to get the black school. They don’t remember that because they’ve always had a mixture. That’ wasn’t rue when I came along in the 60’s. Sometimes I cry and they’ll say, we didn’t know.>

Congratulations to Teresa Brown. This week’s Educator of the Week.
