Mark's Weather Blog: Rain early this week with a warming trend and dry air for the weekend!

Monday, April 23, 2018 -

Good Evening.  As predicted last week, a slow moving area of low pressure has moved into the area with clouds and rain.  Temperatures were mild this afternoon despite the rain and wind.  Climate at Tri-Cities Airport.

We stay mild through the week with warmer temperatures for the weekend!

You can see the low pressure system that is dominating the east today on these satellite images from College of DuPage.

Hre is a close-up view of the satellite from College of DuPage showing east Tennessee on the right side.

Take a look at the low on this satellite imagery from NOAA.

Check out this imagery from  NOAA - This is the water vapor imagery.  You can clearly see the low spinning across Tennessee.

The low pressure system is also creating the high winds.  A High Wind Warning remains in effect for the highest elevations of east Tennessee through 2 AM..  Winds could gust to as high as 60 mph.  A Wind Advisory also remains in effect for the foothills through 2 AM where winds could gust to as high as 50 mph.

The low pressure system will keep the chance of rain in the area tonight through tomorrow.  Flood Watches remain in effect for parts of Virginia and western North Carolina through 8 AM Tuesday.

8 PM Tonight - Showers will be scattered across the area.

7 AM Tuesday - We keep showers in the area with windy conditions.

Noon Tuesday - The center of the low pressure system will be just west of the Tri-Cities.  This keep the clouds and rain in the area.

We could see a few thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon as the low pressure moves into the region.  Due to the cold air aloft, there could be some small hail with the scattered storms that do form over the area.

5 PM Tuesday - Showers and a few thunderstorms will be possible as the low moves over our area.

The low pressure will be east of our area by Noon Wednesday, but we still hold onto the clouds and a chance of rain.

Look for a few scattered showers Thursday with more sunshine.

A cold front will move through the region late Friday afternoon with a few scattered showers.

We will dry out for the weekend as temperatures warm!
