BRENTWOOD, TN (WSMV) -

A Franklin man is accused of stabbing his own father to death inside his Brentwood home Wednesday night.

Brentwood police were called about 7 p.m. to the 5000 block of Heathrow Hills Drive, where they found 65-year-old Oliver Cantrell Jr. stabbed multiple times.

Police soon detained his 31-year-old son for questioning, and Daniel Cantrell was then charged with criminal homicide.

He was booked into the Williamson County Jail on a $1 million bond, and his initial court appearance was set for April 17.

Investigators say they still have a lot of questions in this case, and interviews were still underway Thursday afternoon to determine a motive.

"At this point, all of that is still under investigation. We don't know what the motive is," said Assistant Brentwood Police Chief Tommy Walsh.

Neighbors said they were shocked about the crime, and they say Oliver Cantrell Jr., a well-known architect, had lived at the home about 20 years, raising two sons.

"We still have a great bit of investigation. Our detectives were out at the scene most of the night. They've had a few hours to rest, and now we're working on the basics of the investigation moving forward," Walsh said. "All we know is that the father was stabbed in the chest by the son and, unfortunately, passed away."
