Tips to Winterize home during the cold months

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -

The Consumer Energy Alliance is offering tips to keep the heat and money in your home during this winter season.

Officials said you can save 10 percent a year on energy bills by turning down the thermostat 10-15 degrees for eight hours- when you're sleeping or not home.

Sealing drafty windows and any leaks around pipes and unfinished spaces can also help save money.

The Consumer Energy Alliance recommends replacing air and furnace filters as needed. They also suggest opening curtains to south-facing windows during the day to allow sunlight to heat your home.
