Carter County Corrections Officer fired, arrested again

Posted: Updated:
ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL) -

One day after a Carter County corrections officer is fired, he's arrested for the second time in just a matter of weeks.

Jesse Carico was arrested early Saturday morning in the Big Lots parking lot of Elizabethton.

Deputies said Carico was behind the wheel and was arrested on Driving Under the Influence, the passenger of the car was arrested on Public Intoxication.

A month ago Elizabethton Police found him passed out in his car on Elk Avenue.

Officers said he failed a sobriety test and they also found methamphetamine.

He's charged with D.U.I. and Drug Possession.

"It's very disheartening when you have an employee conduct criminal acts of any sort. We just cant tolerate any of those things, but they're also subject to due process which gives us time to do our internal investigation," said Sheriff Chris Mathes.

Carico was fired Friday after internal audit on the first arrest.
