JOHNSON COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -

It's a local story that made national news - a couple murdered after investigators say one of them defriended someone else on Facebook.

A total of four people face charges in connection to the killings in Johnson County.

Marvin Potter pleaded not guilty in the deaths of Billy Payne and Billie Jean Hayworth last January.

"We are going to show you that you are in the midst of someone who was trained and cold-blooded enough to do that kind of act," said Assistant District Attorney Dennis Brooks in his opening statement.

Investigators say that Potter became angry after his daughter, Jennelle Potter was de-friended by the victims.

"What was their great sin? What did they do wrong? They chose not to be friends with Jenelle Potter."

Brooks then showed pieces of emails allegedly sent between potter and the other suspects.

But Potter's defense says the physical evidence just isn't there.

"There were no fingerprints, there won't be blood stains, there's no DNA, the only ballistics test that you're going to hear talked about is what we just talked about, they're inconclusive at best," said Defense Attorney, Randy Fallin.

The trial resumed Tuesday. News Channel 11 has a crew in the courtroom. We'll have the latest developments beginning today on the news at 5 p.m.
