Carter County deputy arrested on assault charges

ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL) -

A local sheriff's deputy has been arrested on assault charges. Sheriff Chris Mathes said his department arrested one of their own Sunday morning in the Milligan Community of West Carter County.

Matt Ainsworth, 25, a deputy with the Carter County Sheriff's Office, is charged with Assault and Assault Under Domestic Violence.

Mathes said Ainsworth allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and her neighbor who attempted to intervene during a domestic situation..

Ainsworth has been placed on administrative leave without pay, pending the investigation.

He has been transferred to Washington County Detention Center for security precautions on an $8,000 bond.
