Avery County Landslide: Update on Hwy 194 progress

Posted: Updated:

It's been six weeks since a massive landslide wiped out a busy Avery County highway, and forced families from their houses.

A section of Hwy 194 between Elk Park and Newland collapsed July 15th, and continued to cave in. Tonight, the section remains shut down - a major inconvenience for travelers and those who live in the area.

So what's the time table on repair work?

News Channel 11's Kylie McGivern is in your corner tonight. She traveled to Avery County to get an update on the progress.

We're told crews are on track to reopen that section of the highway in November. Teams are working around the clock, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Monday marked three weeks of work at this blistering pace.
