TN Dept. of Labor reinstates benefit for dependent children

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WJHL) -

The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development announced Friday that the state will continue to provide additional unemployment benefits to claimants with dependent children through the end of the year.

The state had tried to stop the $15 per child a week benefit at the end of June.

However the state halted those plans, because federal law doesn't allow states to cut federal unemployment benefits.

The Federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation program is set to expire on December 31, 2013, and the additional dependent benefits are expected to end.
