Former principal denied appeal to Board of Education

ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL) -

A former principal's fight to keep his job may be over, but another educator's position will soon be up for discussion.

Former West Side Elementary Principal Doug Mitchell prepared to make an appeal about the decision to transfer him to a different school as a teacher.

However, before Mitchell could make his statement, the board informed him that he could not appeal a transfer. All the board could do was ask Superintendent Ed Alexander to reconsider the transfer.

Another item up for discussion, the contract for Superintendent Ed Alexander, the man who transferred Mitchell in the first place.

However, the board concluded that item had been added to the agenda too late and would have to be pushed back to the next meeting.

Some parents urged the board to be mindful of their coming vote.

"Please vote to reflect that majority if not we will proceed we will proceed with recall elections it will take us 1200 signatures on a petition to organize a recall election. This is not an insurmountable task. We will make it happen," said Rebecca Powers, a parent at Elizabethton City Schools.

The next board meeting is set for July. The board will then decide whether or not to renew Superintendent Ed Alexander's contract.
