GLADE SPRING, VA (WJHL) -

Wet pavement was a factor in at least one of three wrecks on Interstate 81 Sunday afternoon.

Virginia State Police say the crashes happened around 4:00 PM, between the Glade Spring and Chilhowie exits.

Two of the accidents happened in the northbound lanes; the third in the median.

VSP told News Channel 11 that two people from a two car accident in the northbound lanes were airlifted to Bristol Regional Medical Center. No information was released on their conditions.

Troopers believe one of the cars hydroplaned and crossed into the other lane. The car hit another vehicle sending it into an embankment, before it came to rest on the interstate.

Troopers say the people in the other accidents suffered fairly minor injuries.
